…to bold adventures.

I suffered a birthday yesterday, and that was the fortune I got. Adding the “in bed” modifier doesn’t really help, since independent sex isn’t very appealing, while the bold adventures bit is.

My lucky numbers were: 11 19 25 28 36 and 13. How is 13 a lucky number? Bastards.

I couldn’t get motivated enough to head home, so I spent TG with the significant other’s parents and friends. Correction: I watched football while the females clucked in the kitchen. However, all of the food was excellent, especially the turkey. We used Alton Brown’s recipe, even going so far as to brine the bird for like 6 hours. It really does make a huge difference.

But it’s over, and I’m thankful for that. Now I just need to get through a birthday and Christmas.

The Japanese probe has landed on an asteroid in an effort to bring back samples. When it arrived on the asteroid, it got a venti vanilla no-foam latte from Starbucks.

Working from home has some drawbacks, like accidently drinking an entire pot of coffee. Or forgetting deadlines and playing Tiger Woods PGA Tour until 5am. (I will rock your ass in this game. Know that.) Or just going stir-crazy and needing to get out of the house. The problem is I still need to be connected since I do a lot of work over instant messenger.

My off-site locations are either Map Room or Starbucks. While the Map Room is a great choice, they have WAY too many beers on tap. And I’m allergic to alcohol - makes my speech slur and I tend to stumble. Limits my options to Starbucks and, well, Starbucks.

I ended up spending a few hours at the Roscoe Village Starbucks again. Apparently people aren’t getting the message because they’re still having the most ugly, repulsive infants I’ve ever seen. I don’t know what these parents are thinking, unless a future as a circus freak in the cards. For the last time, STOP HAVING UGLY BABIES.

Some things aren’t supposed to be seen. Like seeing your parents naked. Or the poor bastards that clean the men’s restroom at Wrigley Field. Another thing that should never be witnessed is the UPS guy dropping a package.

Coming back from getting lunch at Calvin’s on Armitage, I saw my UPS guy fumble a box and casually let it land on the ground. This is the same guy that’s delivered wine to me in the past, as well as various breakables. His wonton disregard for that box has me shocked.

Should I change to DHL? They claim better customer service, after all.

A few days ago I was in the bathroom… how to put this? Dropping the kids off at the pool. That’s it. I heard this slight bang from somewhere under my ass. Momentary panic as I checked for water, only to find that I’D BROKEN THE TOILET SEAT.

I didn’t think I was putting on any weight. Hell, I think I’ve lost a few from walking golf courses all summer. But it broke cleanly. No groaning protests before failure. No warning whatsoever. Just “I give up.”

Then it was off to Home Depot for a new toilet seat. I hate home ownership.

Rock Bottom in the loop has an easily located, neon sign directing people to the restrooms. The problem is the first thing you run into after finding the sign are two plants at the top of the stairs. It’s an honest mistake.

Back from LA

Just back from LA. While we stayed in or near Beverly Hills, I’m disappointed that LA is kind of a dump. The only ‘celebrity’ cited was Hulk Hogan, and if that doesn’t sum up the trip, nothing else can.

The high points of the trip included a visit to the Santa Monica pier and eating possibly the best sushi I’ve ever had. (Sasabune closed the week before we got there, so we had to hit Hide Sushi, which was also excellent.)

Other than that, I’m happy the trip is over. No additional travel is currently planned, but that can change at any point with my schedule.
