Blog Neglect

I just realized that I’ve been neglecting my blog, and therefore, my gentle readers (both of you). Trying to get the apartment ready for two cats has taken up more time than I imagined. In addition to figuring out where to up the litter box, I’ve tried to finish up some of the home improvement projects - with no success.

I haven’t had any motivation ever since that project finished up at the end of May. Maybe it’s the lack of stress. I mean, I really don’t have anything to do. Other than finish a book and start working on another one. Or mortar my fireplace. Or install the baseboard moulding. Nope, nothing to do.

I’d keep writing, but I think I’m going to play some Xbox.

And you know it. Who do you know, outside of people from San Antonio, that can rightfully claim to be a Spurs fan? They don’t exist. On the other hand, everybody wanted the Pistons to win, even if you couldn’t bring yourself to admit it.

I know that some of you are in the closet. If that’s how you need to live, that’s fine. Secretly cheering for the Pistons while you try to fake passive interest - it’s okay. Really.

But deep down, you wanted the Pistons to beat the living piss out of the Spurs. To see Ben Wallace dominate. Because the Pistons represent Motor City, and there’s something right about cheering for Detroit. (Yes, even for the Lions.)

I suppose that San Antonio has the Alamo. And having never been to San Antonio, I can’t really relate to the whole Alamo thing. To me it’s just a bad movie.

What do I know? I live in Chicago.

My Freaking Back

I don’t know what I did to deserve this, but the left-side of my back is in some serious agony. It hurts to breathe. So much for golfing.

In other news, the kittens appear to be on the mend and will be visiting the v-e-t shortly. I pick them up the weekend of the 4th. Here’s a pic:

Hello Clarice.

Clarice is on top, Hannibal is on the bottom.

The Chinese prize the ability to work on a project until completion, whether it takes days or weeks. Luckily, I don’t feel the same way about driving. After leaving Bar Harbor at 6am, I reached Ann Arbor, Michigan in 17 hours. My mistake was cutting across Canada by going through western Maine, when I should have taken I-95 to I-90, then cut across Canada from Buffalo to Windsor.

Western Maine is rural. Like really rural.

Anyhow, I’m back in Chicago. Apparently I adopted two kittens while I was on vacation. I’ll be getting them in early July after they’ve had all of the required upgrades. (Jetpacks, leather seats, etc.)

Road Trip

Vacation is wrapping up and I’m leaving tomorrow morning to get back to work. My back is pretty messed up from golf, and I have a number of new blisters. I had a reasonable time this year, but I don’t think I’m going back to Bar Harbor. The service was shit in every business I visited, and I got the impression that people were doing me a favor by bringing me a drink.

Going to try a new path back to Chicago, this time heading through Canada in an attempt to save some time. We’ll see how well that works out.

Just had the worst service ever at 2 Cats. So annoyed.

Got to hang out with Amy-san. Her mambo is better than her rumba.

Tomorrow morning I’m leaving for two weeks of vacation, again in Bar Harbor, Maine. The odd thing about leaving tomorrow is that I don’t know when I’ll be back home.

After my vacation is complete, I’m heading to Connecticut for a few months on a spur of the moment project for a new client. Ordinarily I wouldn’t do this, but there are very few things I won’t do for a new client. And the money doesn’t hurt either.

That’s the thing about being a consultant: If you want to be a superstar, you need to be on the road.
