Jen has an interesting take on why doctors are useless. This does it for me. If I can’t solve my health problems with vodka and sushi, they just don’t need to be solved.

Jet Dry

Loaded up the the dishwasher to find that I’m out of Jet Dry. Then I got to thinking, so what if I have spots on my glasses? Is it really that big of a deal? I tried to put it out of my head, then I was under the sink with a maglite looking for what I just KNEW had to be under there.

Found it. Crisis averted. Wait until I go to Costco and get a keg of Jet Dry.

Kaze

I’ve been meaning to blog about my experience at Kaze, a reasonably new sushi joint in Roscoe Village. I’m not going to bother linking to them because a) I don’t know if they have a site and b) it’s not going to be a pretty review.

First off, the important bit: the food was simply amazing. Everything we had, which wasn’t much, was excellent. They were out of a lot of stuff, which was surprising for a Tuesday night. Even more surprising was the crowd - the place was packed. We had to stand (!) for about 20 minutes before we got a table. There’s no overflow area for you to drink your overpriced vodka on the rocks or gin and tonic.

Once we got seated, our waitress introduced herself. At least I think she did. She must have a job calling auctions because I couldn’t keep up with her. And she didn’t make eye contact with me. Ever. Since I couldn’t figure out the specials, I just pointed at a few things on the menu and on other peoples’ plates. 45 minutes later, we got our food.

Like I said, the food is great. It’s everything else about the place that I hated. Insanely overpriced, pathetic service and pretentious as hell, I won’t be going back. Instead, I’ll be heading to Coast or Cafe Sushi. It seems that Coast has gotten quite popular, so I’m on the lookout for a new place. Mirai, perhaps.

When I call to cancel credit cards, don’t try to sell me more stuff. I’m not going to buy it. Especially when I’m sick. And don’t tell me how much I’ll miss your services. I won’t.

Discover Card, you can kiss my ass goodbye.

After a week and a half here, I’ve finally figured out why I hate Phoenix. It’s generic and, frankly, fake. The vast majority of places to eat at are chains, or they look so shady that you’d be crazy to eat there.

Can’t wait to get back to Chicago, where I can buy live chickens from the place down the street.

I’ve just installed the bot-check anti-spam plugin for Wordpress 1.5. Hopefully, this will stop the veritable flood of fucking comment spam I get. I’ve turned off comment moderation tonight for a test, so we’ll see how things go.

Busy busy

Things have been crazy busy this month. Actually, it started on Feb 28th, but February was a pretty dull month overall so I’ll just include it in March. Last week I was in Phoenix on a short-term project, and I’m supposed to head back there next week.

Phoenix might seem like a sweet gig, being that it was 80F when I left on Friday and Chicago was 20F. However, Phoenix is possibly the most boring city I’ve been to. There’s nothing to do, and I wasn’t able to get the theme song from ‘The Flintstones’ out of my head when driving around. (A complete lack of public transportation doesn’t help either.) The houses all look the same, and everything is a strip mall.

I’ve been told Scottsdale is the place to be, but after a 12-14 hour day, I need my entertainment to come to me. It’s hard to find a hotel in Phoenix with hookers and room service.

Maybe they’re chimps. Either way, they make me laugh. Have you seen the Career Builder commercial where it’s the guy working with a bunch of monkeys? I’m not a fan of the Career Builder website, but if I ever need to re-enter the wage slave market, I’m going to use Career Builder.

Because they have commercials with monkeys. Or chimps.
